Story
Story
These sculptural light works take their form from alchemic symbols. Like alchemy, which transforms matter and spirit, Kaytar’s process aims to change materials and imbue them with new life. The spheres are solid metal, hand sand-cast, and left raw to develop a natural patina with a living presence. The shade, constructed from flax linen, has been coated in beeswax to create a sculptural quality that emits the soft scent of beeswax to delight the senses. The circular form and materials used in the Alter works represents completeness and unity, symbolising the constant transformation and evolution of matter and energy. The solid metal spheres reflect the idea that all elements and forces in the universe are part of a greater whole, embodying the eternal cycle of creation, destruction, and transformation.

Process
This solid metal piece is sand-cast by hand. The unique ripples and pitting in the material are to be celebrated for their individual beauty. Raw aluminum, brass, and bronze will naturally develop a patina over time, adding to their inherent beauty. If desired, a high-quality metal polish can restore their original brightness and shine.
The Flax linen has been hand-coated with Beeswax. This sensory material will form unique crease marks when ruched or pinched, adding to its perfectly imperfect sculptural beauty. To even out the texture and restore the original condition, you can gently warm up the fabric with a blow dryer to soften the wax. Enjoy the scent as the fabric heats up.
Our textiles are naturally dyed by hand using plant extracts. Any inconsistencies in colour mimic nature and add to the unique beauty of this piece. The process of dyeing by hand requires many steps to achieve the depth of the organic colours you see.
